![]() This approach makes updating the core KONTAKT experience a delicate endeavor, but it’s one of the key factors that have allowed the KONTAKT community to grow beyond anything we could have imagined back in 2002. That’s been a core feature since the earliest updates to the platform – the guarantee that libraries will work with your current version of KONTAKT, the next version, and the version after that. Many of you already have entire drives full of these instruments, collected and curated over a period of years, and all of these libraries still work. It’s that flexibility that has caught the imagination of a whole industry of pro and hobbyist creators, who have made it the platform of choice for virtual symphony orchestras, unusual acoustic instruments, unobtainable synthesizers, and everything in between. What that instrument looks like, how complex it is, and how you play it is entirely up to you. If it makes a sound, you can turn it into a KONTAKT instrument. It’s effectively whatever you want it to be. Today, KONTAKT 7 is our flagship, do-it-all instrument platform. Two decades, countless blockbuster film scores, hundreds of chart hits, and thousands of incredible instruments later, we can confidently update that description. At that time, it’s also fair to say that it was a sampler. ![]() Again and again, questions come from the community, especially from the free plugin community, about why there are so few Kontakt Player libraries available. It’s fair to say that when KONTAKT launched in 2002, nobody could have predicted its impact on the world of music production. Native Instruments Kontakt Player, however, is just a stripped-down version and a player for licensed libraries. With the regular Kontakt sampler, you can design custom instruments, play third-party libraries, etc. I think alot of people would buy it just to use their sample libraries from desktop on there too. Imagine all they'd have to do is code a "kontakt" version for apple silicon natively, and then it could use the same exact sample libraries people already purchased. I think alot of people would buy it just to use their sample libraries from desktop on there said: It was just a cosmetic issue, so no worries. ![]() I was thus able to (re)start using my full Kontakt 6 again with my third-party libraries normally, the only problem being that the Kontakt icon remained same as the 7 was before I deleted all the files, as well as the name "Kontakt 7" when using Kontakt 6 and its "old" library. ![]() The quickest solution was to remove all traces of kontakt 7 player (there's a post here somewhere or a page in support area on the website that point all the files to be removed from many different places on the hard drive.). I installed the player version via native access, and like many, my full kontakt 6 refused to open correctly, and especially all my third-party libraries were now launching in demo mode. When Kontakt 7 was released, I wanted to try the 7 player version (to try the "Hypha" gift, and mostly see what was new in this version (well, not much except the browser)). I recently got one of the new Play series instruments and can't use it because it needs Kontakt 7. Being able to use Kontakt 7 player along side a full (paid for) version of Kontakt should be a given. I can resize the font, I know, its still tiny. I wonder, why the NI gui (graphical user interface) of the NI software, I downloaded today, (kontakt player, complete kontrol) is still not adapted to retina hi-res screens like MacBook Pro etc., as laptops with retina resolution are sold since years (8 or 10 years?) also the text size is still very small, hard to read, and not size-fluid adaptable, like dragging window and resizing it, not possible. ![]()

![]() ![]() The task shader operates similarly to the control stage of tessellation, in that it is able to dynamically generate work. Ahead of the mesh shader in the pipeline is the task shader. The mesh shader stage produces triangles for the rasterizer, but uses a cooperative thread model internally instead of using a single-thread program model, similar to compute shaders. The new approach allows the memory to be read once and kept on-chip as opposed to previous approaches, such as compute shader-based primitive culling (see ,), where index buffers of visible triangles are computed and drawn indirectly. The mesh shader gives developers new possibilities to avoid such bottlenecks. Vertex and attribute fetch for data that is not visible (backface, frustum, or sub-pixel culling).Vertex batch creation by the hardware’s primitive distributor scanning the indexbuffer each time even if the topolgy doesn’t change. Some fixed-function steps in the pipeline may do wasteful work and memory loads in this scenario: Even after occlusion culling a significant amount of triangles can exist. : Large meshes can be decomposed into meshlets, which are rendered by mesh shaders.įor example CAD data can reach tens to hundreds of millions of triangles. Using the new hardware stages and this segmentation scheme, we can render more geometry in parallel while fetching less overall data. Each meshlet ideally optimizes the vertex re-use within it. The original mesh is segmented into smaller meshlets as figure 2 shows. In this post we look at mesh shaders to accelerate rendering of heavy triangle meshes. Other use-cases not shown above include geometries found in scientific computing (particles, glyphs, proxy objects, point clouds) or procedural shapes (electric engineering layouts, vfx particles, ribbons and trails, path rendering). The need for increasing realism drives massive increases in geometric complexity. Figure 1 shows several examples where today’s graphics pipeline with vertex, tessellation, and geometry shaders, instancing and multi draw indirect, while very effective, can still be limited when the full resolution geometry reaches hundreds of millions of triangles and hundreds of thousands of objects. In visual effects large structures, for example spaceships, are often detailed with “greebles”. CAD models present similar challenges with both complex shaped surfaces as well as machinery made of many small parts. Outdoor scenes in particular can be composed of hundreds of thousands of elements (rocks, trees, small plants, etc.). ![]() The real world is a visually rich, geometrically complex place. ![]() ![]() ![]() To indicate stopping or slowing, the arm is extended out and down, with the palm facing the rear. ![]() This signal needs to be done in a way that it is visible to those behind and potentially beside you. To signal a left turn, the driver extends the left arm straight out of the window, parallel to the road. ![]() Recognizing the difference between hand signals used by drivers and those used by cyclists is crucial for effective road sharing and avoiding misunderstandings that could lead to accidents. Hand signals are not just a form of etiquette in many jurisdictions, they are a legal requirement when turn signals are not functioning or when a vehicle, such as a bicycle, is not equipped with electronic signals. In such cases, hand signals become an essential form of communication for drivers, cyclists, and even motorcyclists. Despite the reliance on modern indicators and brake lights, there are situations where these may fail, or conditions where they are not as visible. In an era where vehicle technology continues to evolve, the importance of understanding the basics, like hand signals for driving, remains paramount. ![]() ![]() Put together one bag for each child of items that symbolize that the classroom is a safe, welcoming place where everyone works together and takes care of each other. In the new version, Gollum pretended that he would show Bilbo the way out if he lost the riddle-game, but he actually planned to use the Ring to kill and eat him. The version of the story given in the first edition became the lie that Bilbo made up to justify his possession of the Ring to the Dwarves and Gandalf. To fit the concept of the ruling Ring that emerged during the writing of The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien revised later editions of The Hobbit. Originally, he was also characterised as being less bound to the Ring than in later versions he offered to give the Ring to Bilbo if he lost the riddle game, and he showed Bilbo the way out of the mountains after losing. In the first edition of The Hobbit, Gollum's size is not stated. At his wits' end in the dark, Bilbo agreed to a riddle game with Gollum on the chance of being shown the way out of the mountains. īilbo Baggins stumbled upon Gollum's lair, having found the Ring in the network of goblin tunnels leading down to the lake. Over the years, his eyes adapted to the dark and became "lamp-like", shining with a sickly pale light. He survived on cave fish, which he caught from a small boat, and small goblins who strayed too far from the stronghold of the Great Goblin. ![]() Gollum was introduced in The Hobbit as "a small, slimy creature" who lived on a small island in an underground lake at the roots of the Misty Mountains. ![]() In Tolkien's Red Book of Westmarch, the name "Déagol" is supposedly a translation of the "original" name in the author-invented language of Westron, Nahald, with the same meaning. The rhyming name of his relative "Déagol" is from Old English: dēagol, meaning ' secretive, hidden '. In Appendix F of The Lord of the Rings, the name "Sméagol" is said to be a "translation" of the Middle-earth name Trahald (having to do with the idea of "burrowing"), and rendered with a name based on Old English smygel of similar meaning. Another suggestion is that it derives from golem, a being in Jewish folklore. Anderson, editor of The Annotated Hobbit, suggests that Tolkien derived the name "Gollum" from Old Norse gull/goll, meaning ' gold ' this has the dative form gollum, which can mean ' treasure '. Name One suggestion is that "Gollum" derives from golem, a being in Jewish folklore (Prague golem pictured). He was portrayed through motion capture by Andy Serkis in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies. Gollum was voiced by Brother Theodore in Rankin-Bass's animated adaptations of The Hobbit and Return of the King, and by Peter Woodthorpe in Ralph Bakshi's animated film version and the BBC's 1981 radio adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. ![]() For Gollum's literary origins, scholars have compared Gollum to the shrivelled hag Gagool in Rider Haggard's 1885 novel King Solomon's Mines and to the subterranean Morlocks in H. They have noted, too, that Gollum is not wholly evil, and that he has a part to play in the will of Eru Iluvatar, the omnipotent god of Middle-earth, necessary to the destruction of the Ring. Gollum finally seized the Ring from Frodo Baggins at the Cracks of Doom in Mount Doom in Mordor, but he fell into the fires of the volcano, where both he and the Ring were destroyed.Ĭommentators have described Gollum as a psychological shadow figure for Frodo and as an evil guide in contrast to the wizard Gandalf, the good guide. Bilbo Baggins found the Ring and took it for his own, and Gollum afterwards pursued it for the rest of his life. Centuries of the Ring's influence twisted Gollum's body and mind, and, by the time of the novels, he "loved and hated, as he loved and hated himself." Throughout the story, Gollum was torn between his lust for the Ring and his desire to be free of it. Gollum referred to the Ring as "my precious" or "precious", and it extended his life far beyond natural limits. Sméagol obtained the Ring by murdering his relative Déagol, who found it in the River Anduin. In The Lord of the Rings it is stated that he was originally known as Sméagol, corrupted by the One Ring, and later named Gollum after his habit of making "a horrible swallowing noise in his throat". Gollum was a Stoor Hobbit of the River-folk who lived near the Gladden Fields. He was introduced in the 1937 fantasy novel The Hobbit, and became important in its sequel, The Lord of the Rings. ![]() ![]() ![]()
